Places To See In Jalandhar

Devi Talab Mandir
The famous Devi Talab Temple is situated in the heart of Jalandhar city, just 1 km from the railway station. It is believed to be more than 200 years old. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga and is one of the 51 Shakthi pithas in India. The image of Lord Shiva that is enshrined herein is called Bhisan Bhairav. Devi Talab Temple has been renovated recently and a number of changes have been made to the old structure.

St Mary’s Cathedral Church
St. Mary’s Cathedral Church is one of the famous religious as well as tourist places in Jalandhar. The Old Church was constructed by Rev. Fr. John Macodnnel in 1947, in the memory of St. Patrick. In 1955, the Catholic Mission of the Indian Punjab was raised to the status of Apostolic Prefecture, with its headquarter at Jalandhar. The church in the city subsequently became the Cathedral or the Mother Church of Punjab.

Shiv Mandir
The famous Shiv Mandir in Jalandhar is located at Gur Mandi, near Imam Nasir Mausoleum. It dates back to the Lodhi Era. It is believed to have been built by the Nawab of Sultanpur Lodhi. The temple comes across as a beautiful blend of Muslim and Hindu architecture, where you can find the main gate in the style of a mosque, while the rest of the building in the Hindu style.

Sodal Mandir
Sodal Temple is situated near Devi Talab Temple, on Sodal road. Here, Lord Sodal is worshipped in the Temple. Every year in Anand Chaturdashi of Bhadon, which is in mid-September, a fair is held at the Samadhi of Baba Sodal. Inside the samadhi, there is a painted portrait of Baba Sodal, decorated with garlands and rosaries. The offerings are distributed among the pilgrims and they sprinkle a few drops on their body.

Imam Nasir Mausoleum and Jamma Masjid
Imam Nasir Mausoleum is an 800-year-old beautifully designed piece of architecture, which is located in the heart of Jalandhar. There is a 400-yeard old Jama Masjid, located close to the Imam Nasir Mausoleum.

Gurdwara Chhevin Padshahi
Gurudwara Chhevin Padshahi is built in the spot where Guru Hargobind, during his tour of Daob area, had a spiritual talk with the holy Muslim saint, Shaikh Darvesh. Located in Basti Shaikh, the gurdwara contains handwritten copy of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, by the martyr Baba Deep Singh, prepared somewhere between 1715 and 1728.

Tulsi Mandir
Tulsi Mandir is an ancient monument in the Jalandhar city. It is the temple of Vrinda, wife of Jalandhara and is located in the Kot Kishan Chand locality. It has a tank, which is said to be the bathing place of the Demons.

Desh-Bhagat Memorial Hall
As the name suggests, Desh-Bhagat Memorial Hall preserves the memory of martyrs who lost their lives in the freedom fight against the colonial rule.

Wonder Land
Wonderland Theme Park is an amusement water park with a variety of water games and land rides. It is spread over an area of 11 acres and is located around 6 km away from the Jalandhar Bus terminus. The major water rides of the park include bumper cars, flying jets, horror house, boating, kiddies’ boating, playhouse and flying dragon. Wave pool and aqua dance floor are other popular attractions. The main park remains open from 9 am to 10 pm, whereas the water park is open from 12 pm to 8 pm. In winters, the water park is closed, owing to the extreme chilly water during this season.

Tourist Attractions around Jalandhar

The Golden Temple Amritsar
The Harmandir Sahib, famous in the world as the Golden Temple, is Sikhism’s holiest shrine, visited by millions of pilgrims and tourists from all over the world.

The temple’s architecture is beautiful beyond imagination and the serene sarovar that surrounds the temple, the holy lake that is believed to consist of Amrit or holy water, adds to the glory of the temple complex. Harmandir Sahib also houses the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy text of Sikhism.

Remember that while inside the temple, it is mandatory to cover your head at all times. Also, eating food at the langar, a common kitchen where food is served to all the visitors, is an experience not to be missed. A trip to Amritsar is incomplete without paying a visit to the Golden Temple. Even if you’re not a devotee, a visit to the temple is a must for a truly awe-inspiring experience.

Wagah Border, Amritsar
The only road border crossing between India and Pakistan, Wagah lies between Amritsar in India and Lahore in Pakistan, and is located approximately 29 kilometres away from the city.

It is home to the Radcliffe Line, which is the demarcation between India and Pakistan and was drawn during the partition of India in 1947. The illustrious lowering of the flags ceremony takes place here at the Wagah Border; a daily military practice followed by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Pakistan Rangers, since 1959.

Wagah Border attracts crowds in large numbers including elderly people, children and foreign nationals. From shouts of patriotism, to the powerful show put up by the BSF and Pakistan Rangers, a visit to Wagah is a gripping experience.

Rock Garden, Chandigarh
The name refers to a sculpture garden located near Sukhna Lake. The Rock garden is also known by the name Nek Chand’s Rock Garden after its founder. Nek Chand was a former government official who started cultivating this garden secretly in his spare time. He kept it hidden from the government authorities for 18 years, till 1975. The garden features several interlinked causeways that run along the waterfalls of the Sukhna Lake and is landscaped with pottery and sculptures of dancers, animals and musicians.
Rose Garden, Chandigarh
Spread over 30 acres the Zakir Hussain Rose Garden is the largest botanical garden in Asia that is dedicated to roses. The garden is named after Zakir Hussain the former President of India. Apart from roses the garden also features several verities of medicinal herbs.
The Ridge, Shimla
At the center of the town is The Shimla Ridge, which offers spectacular views of the mountain peaks of the land. The Ridge is a spacious open space that runs from east to west along the Mall, which is yet another famous tourist destination. It connects to the Scandal point on the west. If you love the view of mountains, this is your dream destination. The marvelous view of snow-clad mountain ranges spellbinds you. The mountains apart, you get to view Christ Church, an ancient church that displays the power of Neo-Gothic architectural brilliance and Tudor Library, another popular attraction. You also get to have an excellent view of the Mall located beneath the Ridge.
Kufri, Shimla
Kufri is located 19 kms away from Shimla. At an altitude of 2510 meters and in the Himalayan foothills, the hill station delights nature lovers and adventurers alike. Kufri along with some places around Shimla once belonged to the Nepal kingdom.
Kalka–Shimla Toy Train
The Kalka–Shimla Railway is a 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow gauge railway in North-West India travelling along a mostly mountainous route from Kalka to Shimla. It is known for dramatic views of the hills and surrounding villages.

The age of the Kalka-Shimla toy train has gone more than 100 years from the day it has inaugurated by the Viceroy of India.

In 2007, the government of Himachal Pradesh declared the railway a heritage property. For about a week starting on September 11, 2007, an expert team from UNESCO visited the railway to review and inspect it for possible selection as a World Heritage Site. On July 8, 2008, the Kalka–Shimla Railway became part of the World Heritage Site

McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala
With an average elevation of 2,082 meters above sea level, McLeod Ganj is named after Sir Donald Friell McLeod who was the Lieutenant-Governor of Punjab under whom the area was developed. The place is known for its various attractions including the residence of the 14th Dalai Lama. The place is one of the most frequented spots in Dharamshala and is famous for its Tibetan culture, handicrafts and temples. The Hanuman Tibba is the highest peak at the height of 5,639 meters above sea level and can be viewed from McLeod Ganj.
Namgyal Monastery, Dharamshala
Namgyal Monastery was established by the 3rd Dalai Lama in 1575 and was relocated to Dharamshala following the 1959 Tibetan uprising. The monastery is one of the major learning and cultural centers of the Tibetan populated in Dharamsala. The monastery currently houses around 200 Tibetan monks and is one of the most frequented places in Dharamshala.
Being renowned in the world for its distinctive blend of the Kangra and Tibetan culture, Dharamshala is one of the most frequented tourist places in India. The place is also famous for its amazing views it is also nicknamed as ‘Little Lhasa’ due to the huge number of Tibetan settlements located here.
